Food Label Red Flag

Reading nutrition labels can be overwhelming. Here are a few words to stay away from and the reason why:
Potassium bromate: added to flour and baked goods; its a known carcinogen (meaning it causes cancers)
Propyl-paraben: a preservative used in some tortillas and pastries; it is known to cause reproductive harm
BHA and BHT (Butylated hydroxyanisole and butylate hydroxytoluene): preservatives found in cured meat and cereals; is a known carcinogen
Titanium deoxidate: a colour additive in candy; can damage DNA
Artificial dyes Red 3, Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2, Green 3: found in food and beverages; has been linked to developmental issues in children
Aspartame: an artificial sweetener; can cause hormone dysregulation that disrupts the metabolism and has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease and cancer
ADA (azodicarbonamide): found in bread and pastries; has been linked to an increased risk of cancer, liver and kidney issues, and negatively impacts the nervous and respiratory system
Propyl-gallate: a preservative used in chewing gum, meat products, and vegetable oils; can cause hormone dysregulation, and have been linked to certain cancers, asthma, and hyperactivity
Sodium benzoate: found in carbonated drinks, juices, and condiments; has been linked to DNA damage
Acesulfame K: an artificial sweeteners; is a known carcinogen
Sucralose: an artificial sweeteners; can cause inflammation and metabolic changes
Partially hydrogenated oils: a source of trans fat and found in processed foods; has been linked to heart disease
Brominated vegetable oil: a food additive in sports drinks, sodas, juice; can cause liver damage
Refined vegetable oils (canola, corn, soy): can promote inflammation
High fructose corn syrup: found in processed foods; linked to liver disease and insulin resistance
MSG (monosodium glutamate): found in processed foods; has been linked to heart issues
Carrageenan: a thickening agent found in ice cream, plant-based milks, and processed meats; can cause digestive issues
PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances): found in nonstick cookware, microwavable bags; have been linked to thyroid disease, certain cancers, immune issues, and increased cholesterol levels
